Le Champion is one of the largest sports clubs in the Netherlands with 20,000 members and 200,000 participants annually. The organisation promotes a healthy and active society by enthusing people of all ages and sporting levels with appealing sporting events. The magazine, which all members and donors receive for free, is an important link between the board and the members, but also between the members themselves. Why? Le Champion Magazine announces sporting events, provides sports information and keeps its readers up to date on cycling, running and walking. About 17,000 sports enthusiasts receive the magazine four times a year.
Creating a quarterly magazine for the members of Le Champion with a more high-quality appearance, based on the monthly magazine at the time, but focussing more on the sporting experience and less on news about the foundation. The look and feel of Le Champion could be a bit more luxurious with more space for beautiful photography and background stories about nutrition and training.
The transition from a monthly to a quarterly magazine would of course lead to fewer contact moments with the target audience. In order to allow this transition to take place gradually, it was decided, together with Le Champion, to publish five print magazines and a number of online magazines in the first two years. Le Champion is now being released in four highly acclaimed 64-page print magazines. Le Champion Magazine is sent to approximately 17,000 members. In addition, the magazine is distributed by magazine lending companies in various places to draw even more attention to the foundation.
Extensive reader research at the end of 2019 showed the average reader rating of Le Champion Magazine to be 7.9. This final assessment is based on the figures below:
